A 12 -year-old lady jeopardized me in the eye,
An assassination of racial apartheid.
Children must have food to eat,
Economic underpinnings- a thirty-fold increase.
Bounced checks and grief in our 11 million poor,
Insufficient funds lay the foundation for more.
Fulfilling this mission of prophesied legacy,
The Constitution tries to keep us from poverty.
Where do we go from here? I agree,
That who is watching us is the god of history.

Author's Comments

#2 in my old poetry series. You may have may noticed that I enjoy choosing slightly odd categories for my writings, but not this time. This poem actually has sociopolitical undertones and it sounds really good when spoken. The sociopoliticalness is there, just look a little deeper.

This was written in 10th grade for a Found Poem assignment. I did my usual odd writing enjoying myself muchly, only to find out after that my poem had actually caught the spirit of the text that it was supposed to be from, which surprised me but got a good grade.

Sad, isn't it, that when REAL themes and undertones show up in literature (as opposed to the junk that makes it into your average English class curriculum), the author doesn't even realize that they're there until in a conversation with his best friend (i.e. me) much later? XD Nice stuff.

Actually my teacher pointed it out to me after I read it aloud to the class.

Really? I thought you first noticed it back on Chaos Rising. ...Meh. XD
